An Interview with Peter Jesperson, Side One

This is part one of a two part interview with Peter Jesperson recorded at Pasadena City College in December, 2025. Peter Jesperson talks about his early years, his immersion into music in Minneapolis, the birth of Twin/Tone Records, the discovery of The Replacements, and much more.

Peter Jesperson is a co-counder of Twin/Tone Records, an influential figure in the 80’s Minneapolis music scene, the manager and producer for The Replacements, a legendary A&R man, a loving husband and father.

This conversation starts with Peter at 4 years old and tracks his life until the hayday of The Replacements “Hootenanny” and the early days of “Let It Be”.

It was a great honor to have Mr. Peter Jesperson visit our studios and regale us with his incredible recollections of the people and events that shaped his extraordinary life.

Thanks to PCC’s Television and Radio program (TVR), the faculty, staff and students that helped in the recording. Mostly, thanks to Peter Jesperson for being extraordinarily gracious with his time and his openness about his life.

I hope you enjoy the conversation. I loved every minute of putting this together.
