In the art world, contemporary artist Walter Askin is one of Pasadena City College’s most well-known alumni.
After graduating PCC with an AA in 1949, Walter went on to study art at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Oxford University. His resume includes exhibiting his work all over the world; teaching college art classes for more than thirty years and founding the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
Walter’s art incorporates whimsical, colorful and sometimes startling, images. He is also an author of a number of books, which have the same gentle, yet off-the-wall, satirical humor as his visual works.
Walter talked about his new book, True Fictions, the Search for Ecstasy in the Rubble of Contemporary Culture, Alas…Being an Aesthetic Ramble to Various Points of View Including the Amazing Wonders of Wobblevision, and how it reflects his experiences with the various personages of the art world.
