Everyone has dreams. For immigrants to California in the nineteenth century, reality provided a stark contrast. The USC Pacific Asia Museum’s current exhibition, “The Other Side: Chinese and Mexican Immigration to America” explores the issues facing immigrants, both in the late 1800’s and the present day. In this particular exhibit, five artists have used various media (including some you might not expect!) to draw viewers’ attention to the realities of immigration.
Guest Curator Chip Tom talked about the exhibition’s origin, the artists’ work and the ways in which the historic events depicted are relevant to today’s questions on immigration.
